ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP

The 2010 Design NSW: Travelling Scholarship – a grant of $18,000 (Australian dollars) – assists a NSW designer at the beginning of their career to undertake a program of professional development overseas. The recipient of the award is announced during Sydney Design at the Powerhouse Museum and featured in the Sydney Design program and on D’Hub. The 2009 Design NSW: Travelling Scholarship winner, Liesl Hazelton, used the grant to visit Guatemala where she was involved with local community artisans.

The NSW Government through Arts NSW assists the recipient to develop a program of professional development in the UK and other countries if desired. This program may include but is not limited to:
+ study or training, including short-term courses or workshops
+ professional research
+ residencies and mentorships or internships with approved designers, manufacturers, companies and organisations.

The British Council will assist the recipient with their program of professional development in the UK by providing support and advice, and facilitating introductions to up to eight leading practitioners relevant to the winner’s field.

The Design NSW: Travelling Scholarship is presented by the Powerhouse Museum and Arts NSW, in partnership with the British Council

The Design NSW: Travelling Scholarship is assisted by the NSW Government through Arts NSW. The Design NSW: Travelling Scholarship is supported by the Visual Arts and Craft Strategy, an initiative of the Australian, State and Territory Governments.
