Driven by developments in digital fabrication, today’s graphic designers are utilising unconventional materials and technologies to push the boundaries of their discipline. Graphic Material explores this freedom through new and innovative works by local and international designers –on display are robotic drawing machines, spot-welded posters and visuals that grow over time. The lines between design disciplines, so long conceptualised in terms of their material output, are becoming increasingly blurred. Traversing contemporary design, art and technology, the exhibition is an exploration of graphic design freed from the constraints of paper and ink.

Curated by Aaron Seymour, the exhibition features work by Graphic Thought Facility, 3Deep Design, Toko, Design by Pidgeon, Bert Simons, Collider, Mark Gowing, Jeremy Wood, Karsten Schmidt, Seymour Design, Frost* and Trigger.

The two floor talks accompanying Graphic Material will explore how new technologies and the material freedoms they allow are evidenced in the work, ideas and concerns of contemporary local and international designers.
