Join a yarning circle and let expert weavers guide you in creating a beautiful object using native grasses and fibres. Indigenous master weavers and an elder storyteller will connect you with your handiwork through their stories of the South Coast of New South Wales from where all the natural materials were collected. The two-hour string-making workshop builds upon a wire structure to create a dilly bag, while the four-hour fibre sculpture workshop guides participants to create an animal sculpture. Display structures – an eel trap, fish trap and dilly bags – are available for you to examine as a source of inspiration. Experiment with the form, strength, feel and scent of the grasses and fibres as you create a personal work of art which you can take with you.
Organised by Jumbunna Indigenous House of Learning, the master weavers and elder storyteller are all members of the Boolarng Nangamai Aboriginal Art and Culture Studio.
