Applications are now open for designers to showcase their products at the popular Young Blood: Designers Market (13, 14 and 15 August 2010). Young Blood is a great launch pad, offering designers a high profile, respected platform to promote and sell their products and services. Young Blood was launched in 2005 during Sydney Design festival and has since grown into a regular, curated event that is part of the museum’s commitment to foster and promote Australian design. Being selected for the market gives stallholders access to industry, media and commercial contacts, as well as thousands of design-savvy shoppers.Young Blood: Designers Markets will be a highlight of Sydney Design 2010.

Entry is $5 per person and includes Museum admission (free for Powerhouse members). 10am–5pm. An apology from the Powerhouse Museum

I want to offer an apology to the many people disappointed by the experience of visiting this year’s markets. On Friday night we experienced unprecedented numbers, far exceeding those of previous years. Whilst this says something exciting about interest in the work of our young designers, our capacity to respond fell well short of what visitors expect of the Powerhouse.

This in no way reflects on the stallholders and their products. The crowds in the market space did not allow for a pleasant experience, and it became necessary to turn visitors away in order to maintain a reasonable level of visitor safety. Whilst not excusing this, we had chosen this year to relocate the market indoors, and to also feature the new Artefact H10515 installation. The space allocated to the market proved inadequate, and our crowd control planning did not match the overwhelming response.

For this we offer our apologies. We are reviewing all aspects of our planning and presentation of the Young Blood event to ensure the Christmas market on 28 November has a range of quality products and is a satisfying experience for visitors.

Meet and buy direct from the best design talent in the country. This year Young Blood is bigger and brighter than ever before and moves to the Museum’s Turbine Hall. Featuring fashion, furniture, jewellery, graphics, landscape and lighting design and more.

Young Blood is on Friday 14 August 6–9pm and Saturday 15 August 2009, 10am–5pm.

The curated market is a glimpse into the future, a critical launch pad for Australia’s talented young designers, as well as a vibrant must-visit market for the design-savvy shopper.

Share a drink at Friday night’s market or visit Inspired, the Museum’s permanent design exhibition on Saturday. Sounds specially mixed by Designer Muzik for Young Blood; and there’ll be a live action photo shoot by fashion photographer Hamish Ta-me, where visitors get the chance for a look behind the scenes as he documents hip-hop dancers.
