2 June 2009 - Meet and buy direct from the freshest design talent at the new look Young Blood: Designers Market at the Powerhouse Museum 14 and 15 August.
The curated market is being staged in the Powerhouse Museum’s main gallery for the first time and will feature fashion, furniture, jewellery, graphics, landscape and lighting design and more.
Share a drink at Friday night’s market and enjoy sounds mixed specially for Young Blood by Designer Muzik, or catch the live photo shoot of hip-hop dancers by fashion photographer Hamish Ta-me at the Saturday market.
Pair shopping with a visit to the Museum’s Inspired! Design across time exhibition and check out Marc Newson’s ‘Lockheed Lounge’ or Florence Broadhurst’s exquisite prints. It features over 800 objects from the Museum’s collection of Australian and international decorative arts and design, from the 1700s to now.
Limited edition pieces created for the Museum’s temporary sustainable restaurant Eat Green Design called NEW TO YOU will also be available to buy at the markets. A group of local designers were specially commissioned to transform discarded objects into functional and desirable interior products to create the NEW TO YOU tableware. The range includes cutlery and crockery by Oliver Smith, Lana Alsamir-Diamond, Stefan Lie and Rod Walden and Janine Brody of Cone 9 Ceramic Design.
First launched during Sydney Design 05, Young Blood is part of the Powerhouse Museum’s commitment to nurturing new and innovative Australian design. As well as access to thousands of shoppers, Young Blood brings designers in contact with industry, media and commercial networks to help take their product to the next level.
