FASHION IN THE 20TH CENTURY: HAUTE COUTURE AND THE ORIGINS OF READY-TO-WEAR

From the corsetry and crinolines of the late 19th century, through to the glamour and upheaval of the past one hundred years, explore key fashion designers and their signature design influences.

Examine antique and vintage couture garments, develop an understanding of the ways in which fabric and construction are affected by available technologies and materials, social mores and economics. Look at ways the history of design itself influences contemporary designers.
