Welcome to the city of the future. This collection of dramatic urban visions was exhibited last year in the 12th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice, Italy, and is seen in Sydney for the first time. This exhibition features two films accompanied by an evocative soundscape creating an immersive environment for visitors to experience. The NOW film highlights five of Australia’s most interesting urban and non-urban regions as they are now, captured using groundbreaking 3D stereoscopic technology. In the second film, 17 futuristic environments imagine WHEN we reach 2050 and beyond. Depicting Australian cities more than 40 years into the future, these ideas are the result of a national competition set by the Australian Institute of Architects which was intended to liberate architects from planning and design constraints to create a vision of the future.

Watch a short interview with Australian Pavillion Creative Co-Director John Gollings shot on opening night.

Watch a vox pop with the Now and When opening night audience shot by the SD11 team.

Sydney Design events will be filmed by Powerhouse Museum staff and the content will be used by the Museum for promotion and this includes uploading into Powerhouse Museum accounts across a variety of third party platforms. If you do not wish to be filmed please inform the photographer/videographer at the time of the event.
